Pastor Retreat
May 18-20, 2008
5:00 p.m. Sunday - 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday
“The Necessity & Practice of Spiritual
Friendship".
Rev. Dave Carver, Pastor First
Presbyterian Church of Crafton Heights
Retreat Leader
In a world that is increasingly “wired”, or perhaps
even more immediately “wireless”; in an era where we have two or three
e-mail addresses, home phones, cell phones, blogs, networks; in an time
where church members are sated with programs and yet starved for
companionship…pastors are
increasingly lonely.
Our time together will present participants with an opportunity to
examine one model of friendship that is described in scripture and
consider its appropriateness for their own lives. We will spend time
together in scripture and in worship; we will engage in a few exercises
that will help us to see the possibilities of friendship in our own
lives; and we will have ample time for reflection and ‘down time’ as
well.
The scriptures under consideration will be those involving the
relationship between the Apostle Paul and Titus. These may include 2
Corinthians 2:5-13, 2 Corinthians 7 & 8, 2 Corinthians 12:14-18,
Galatians 2:1-3, 2 Timothy 4:9-12, and, of course, the Letter to Titus.
I believe that the relationship between Paul and Titus can give 21st
century American Pastors a wonderful window into the kind of
relationship that will allow us to deepen our personal discipleship,
enhance our ability to nurture faith and accountability in others, and
change our communities in ways that will outlast our pastorates.
We hope that you will join us – and that you'll
contact another pastor and bring him or her along.
