To Renew - To Build - To Empower!

Crestfield Camp and Conference Center has a long and proud history dating back to 1947 when members of the Pittsburgh Presbytery recognized the critical need for a camp and conference site. Dr. Hugh Thompson Kerr of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church addressed that need with a $25,000 bequest to purchase Crest View Farm, a 59 acre farm outside of Slippery Rock, in Butler County. Dr. Kerr turned over the title that same year to Pittsburgh Presbytery. Simultaneously, the Pitcairn-Crabbe Foundation contributed $30,000 for the rehabilitation of the new site for camp and conference purposes.
A nationwide merger of two denominations precipitated the inclusion of Camp Fairfield in 1969 as the second part of the Pittsburgh Presbytery Camp Association. However, in 1975, recognizing the need to be good stewards of all God’s blessings, the Presbytery opted to retain only one site, Crestview, and make that site a premier outdoor and conference ministry facility. By uniting the communities of CRESTview and FairFIELD, Crestfield was formed and empowered. The Rev. Peter Surgenor was called as the Resident Director for the newly named camp in Slippery Rock. |
When the national trend is for camps to be experiencing significant decreases in enrollment and even closing, Crestfield is growing and developing new, innovative programs.

Crestfield was a great success! As programs and retreat users increased throughout the 1980’s and early 1990’s, the Board for Camp Crestfield began to envision the future. Through much prayer, hard work, and diligent fund-raising, the newly constructed, completely mortgage-free, Scott Lodge with its twenty-four hotel style rooms was opened for use in the fall of 1999. With the addition of Scott Lodge, no longer was Crestfield just a place for children to enjoy summer camp. No longer did Crestfield merely offer rustic accommodations that adults did not find enjoyable or fitting toward their needs. Scott Lodge truly transformed Crestfield into a year round camp and conference center.
Today, Crestfield, a 226 acre facility with easy and quick access just off of Interstate 79, is a thriving camp and conference center under the direction of The Rev. Betty Angelini. Crestfield serves over 600 campers on site as well as 200-300 campers off site in the summer time and approximately 3,000 conference and retreat users throughout the year.
