Summer Staff

2012 Summer Employment Opportunities

Spending your summer serving and ministering to children and youth is a transformative experience that will shape the rest of you life. If God is calling you, then be bold and join the fun. Your eyes will be opened and you will recognize Christ in new ways.

2012 Staffing:

Hiring for the summer 2012 staff will occur on a rolling basis, meaning that there are a specific amount of positions that will be filled as applications are processed.  Additionally, for the 2012 summer, all staff, either paid or volunteer will be asked to complete the required paperwork for a criminal background check.

Please remember that past employment does not guarantee future employment.  As Crestfield strives to nurture campers in discipleship, we seek to hire and rehire vibrant, mature, and growing disciples of Jesus Christ.

References

References are necessary for all applicants.  Three references are required for new applicants.  One new reference is necessary for returning applicants.

Interviews (either in-person or telephone) will be scheduled upon receipt of your application form.  Interviews will be conducted by the Program Director and/or the Executive Director.

FAQ Regarding Summer Employment

What is/are FAQs?

Great question! FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions. We thought we would try to clear up a few things for you as you explore that ol' call to outdoor ministry. It is a big job with a lot involved, but it is a vital ministry. That said, we want to put you at as much ease as possible.

When will I start and when will I end employment at Crestfield?

Staff training for returning staff members begins on June 2 and on June 3 for first-time staff. Staff training will end on June 13. The first day of camp is Sunday, June 17. The last day of summer camp as a full staff will be on Saturday, August 4. The weeks following will be special programs (including Last Blast Camp) that will only require a limited number of staff members. Typically you will be contracted from June 3-August 4 with additional opportunities available.

Will I be at Crestfield the whole summer? Will I have any time off?

On a typical week of camp, staff will report to Crestfield ready to go at 1:00pm on Sunday. Through the week staff will be given daily breaks (but are to remain on-site). Our camp program draws to a close around 6:30pm on Friday and is followed by a staff meeting. After the staff meeting (typically around 7:30pm) staff are free to rest and relax for the weekend. Staff may stay at Crestfield over the weekend or leave site.

Following our second week of camp, staff will be off from Saturday, June 30 through Tuesday, July 10. During that period of time there is the opportunity for a limited number of staff to stay and help with the PC(USA) General Assembly and Family Camp.

Similarly, our last day of summer camp will be Friday, August 3 followed by a staff closing on Saturday, August 4. At this point, the summer staff will have completed their summer employment. Crestfield will then have Last Blast Camp from August 14-16 and will hire a limited number of summer staff to facilitate this camp.

How old will the kids be that I will work with at Crestfield?

Most weeks Crestfield will have campers who just finished 3rd grade all the way through 11th grade. Each week summer staff preferences are taken into account as we make age assignments. We work to have summer staff work with the variety of age groups and co-counselors through the summer.

How many kids will I have in my cabin?

Each cabin typically has 8-10 children/youth of the same age group. A cabin counselor will usually have a second staff member in the cabin as well. Each cabin will be paired with another cabin of the opposite gender to create a Family Group. Family Groups will spend the week together experiencing Crestfield.

I've never worked at camp before, or even went to camp as a kid. Can I still apply?

You sure can! In fact, Becky Little, our Program Director never went to or worked at camp before Crestfield and look where God called her. All you need is a passion for outdoor ministry and a servant heart.

We will have an intense 10-day staff training from June 3-13, 2012. During Staff Training you will be certified in First Aid & CPR, become familiar with camp activities & schedules, discuss how to work with children/youth, develop Bible studies based on our theme and much (much, much) more to help you prepare for the summer.

Prior to Staff Training, a series of training weekends and/or mid-weeks may be held for specialized staff (i.e. ropes course certification, archery certification, lifeguard certification, etc.)  before staff training begins.
