Off-Site Daycamp

Bringing Crestfield Programing to Your Church!

Summer 2012

Crestfield, in partnership with the Director of Disciplemaking for Pittsburgh Presbytery and Pittsburgh Presbytery's Administrative Commission for Transformation, is excited to announce that applications are now being accepted for this year's Daycamp Experience. Crestfield will come to your site/church for this Vacation Bible School-like experience for children kindergarten through grade 5 completed.

The theme for Crestfield Day Camp 2012 is based around the parables of Jesus. The act of storytelling is as ancient as human communication. From writing on the walls of caves to oral tradition to written words to campfires and dinner tables-stories are how we pass on the meaning and beauty of our history. Stories make us laugh or cry. They make us more aware. They help us understand. They illuminate any shadowy spots in our lives. Jesus used stories to teach his disciples-and us-about what it means to live in his kingdom. Those stories are called parables. This summer we will look to the Master Storyteller, Jesus himself, to discover 4 parables and invite the Holy Spirit to teach us through these sacred stories.

Bible stories will include

We are God’s Soil  --  Mark 4: 1-9, 13-20  --  We are open to receive/respond to God’s Word

We Can Ask Boldly  -- Luke 11:5-10  --  We can seek/provide love and grace

God Plants Us  --  Matthew 13:31-35  --  God can use us to grow the Kingdom

God Treasures Us  --  Luke 15:1-10  --  God cares for us no matter what

We have a variety of opportunities for you!

Traditional Daycamp

Running Monday through Thursday this experience can either be in the morning or the evening. Each experience is one week long. For sites new to the Daycamp Initiative, daycampers will travel on Wednesday by chartered bus with chaperones and Crestfield staff and spend the day at Crestfield. Sites that have previously participated in the Daycamp Initiative can choose to participate in the trip for a nominal fee.

Reading Camp

In conjunction with the Allegheny Literacy Council, we are offering two Reading Camps. Each Reading Camp needs to be two weeks in duration. One daycamp will be held from 9:00 AM-12:30 PM and one in late afternoon and evening, depending on site preference during the same two week time. Only 12 students can be enrolled at each church site. These students should have completed grades 1st-4th. Recruitment and registration will need to be completed one week before the reading camp starts so that pre-reading camp testing can take place.

Music, Art and Drama Camp (MAD)

This camp will be conducted from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM on Monday–Friday and will focus on music, art and drama. The Daycamp will conclude with a production on Friday during the day or evening. MAD Camp works best with campers who have completed 2nd through 6th grade. The participating church will need to provide lunch for the campers and staff.
